Fine Art Shibari

Journey of acceptation

Fine Art Shibari

Combining two skills that are close to me

triptych Shari

When I was asked by a fellow photographer to rope a model for a shibari  I was a bit hesitant. Normally I want to have full control over the concept, shooting and final editing. We had shot together before when our studios were adjacent. but that was spontaneous and conceptless.

However, the model came up with such a surprising concept combining the ropes and flour that I immediately said “YES, let’s do it”.
Now that we had gathered the ingredients we could think about the concept. What are we going to portray…

Above you see the end result of the triptych in black and white.
The process to get there was a great experience. I have never had such a click with a model as with Purple Fox.

The three of us worked out the concept where I took care of the technical part and my part of the photography. The other photographer was able to shoot to his heart’s content and also recorded the entire process.

Our model thought about the concept and symbolism of this shoot.

We had an awesome Shibari photo shoot and reflects in the pictures we can show you here.

Shibari art is very poplar and if you want to buy a printed copy of one of these pictures, please let us know.

The symbolism mainly arises from how the model, but also I look at life
I’ll let her do the talking about this.

From the Model Purplefox444’s point of view:

A photographer asked me to do a Shibari shoot. Although I hesitated first, I was curious enough to the experience. But if I joined, I wanted to do something new and original.

I thought about this concept and found that shibari often stresses sensuality and sensuality. This was the first thing I wanted differently, I wanted to give emotions a central role. The photos should be about freeing yourself emotionally.

Thinking about this concept brought me to the idea to use flour. This could be a way to enforce the emotions and desire to freedom on the pictures. I found Rick to rope me and he was enthusiastic about my idea immediately and we couldn’t stop brainstorming.

It was only one month later when we had a wonderful day on which I had an amazing shibari experience and photo results that I’m incredibly proud of.
